想到这日子的来临，
所有教堂钟楼
皆传出钟声
歌唱持续不断
地上有平安，好运归人类！
一路上传来钟鸣、歌唱，
世界交替，从黑夜到白天，
歌声，钟声，
圣歌宏亮庄严
地上有平安，好运归人类！
而后，从每个黑色可憎的炮口
南方响起轰轰炮鸣，

淹没了颂歌

亨利・瓦兹沃思・朗费罗（1807－1882）19世纪最著名的美国诗人，创作了大量的抒情诗、歌谣、叙事诗和诗剧，著有《海华沙之歌》。朗费罗也是第一位把但丁的《神曲》翻译成英文的美国人。
本诗作于美国南北战争期间，从诗中我们可以体会到战乱时期圣诞节的气氛，还可以感受诗人乐观的态度。
